Carrier & Shipper Policy

Great American Auto Transport (GAATCO)
Effective Date: 7/1/2025

This Carrier & Shipper Policy outlines the terms, responsibilities, and expectations for motor carriers and shippers working with Great American Auto Transport (GAATCO), a licensed auto transport broker.

1. GAATCO’s Role as Broker

GAATCO operates solely as a transport broker, facilitating connections between vehicle shippers (customers) and licensed motor carriers. GAATCO does not transport vehicles and is not liable for damage, delays, or performance by the assigned carrier.

2. Carrier Requirements

To partner with GAATCO, all carriers must:

  • Be fully licensed and registered with the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration).
  • Maintain active cargo insurance and liability coverage meeting or exceeding federal minimums.
  • Provide a valid MC and DOT number.
  • Maintain a professional standard of communication and customer service.
  • Accurately document vehicle condition at pickup and delivery using a Bill of Lading (BOL).
  • Notify GAATCO and the shipper of delays, changes, or damages during transport.

Carrier Payment:
Payment terms for carriers will be agreed upon prior to dispatch and must reflect the confirmed rate. GAATCO is not responsible for payment unless otherwise arranged in writing.

3. Shipper Responsibilities

Shippers (vehicle owners/customers) agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete pickup and delivery information.
  • Ensure the vehicle is ready for transport, including:
    • Fuel tank less than ¼ full
    • No major leaks or loose parts
    • Operable (unless non-running status is declared in advance)
  • Remove all personal belongings and valuables from the vehicle.
  • Be available or have a designated contact person at pickup and delivery.
  • Inspect the vehicle at delivery and note any damage on the BOL.

Shipper Payment:
Shippers are responsible for:

  • Paying the broker fee to GAATCO (usually at booking).
  • Paying the carrier fee (typically upon delivery unless pre-arranged).

4. Delays & Force Majeure

Carriers and shippers acknowledge that transport timelines are estimated, not guaranteed. Delays may occur due to:

  • Weather
  • Traffic
  • Mechanical breakdowns
  • Acts of God

GAATCO will not be held liable for such delays but will assist in communicating updates between the shipper and the carrier.

5. Damage Claims

  • All damage must be documented on the BOL at delivery.
  • Claims must be filed directly with the carrier’s insurance provider.
  • GAATCO may provide support but is not responsible for claim resolution.

6. Cancellations

  • Shippers may cancel prior to dispatch and may be eligible for a partial refund (see our Refund Policy).
  • Carriers must notify GAATCO at least 24 hours prior to scheduled pickup to cancel or reassign a load.

Failure to follow proper cancellation procedures may result in removal from GAATCO’s carrier network.

7. Prohibited Items

Shippers may not place the following items in vehicles:

  • Firearms or ammunition
  • Drugs or controlled substances
  • Hazardous materials
  • Household goods or luggage exceeding insurance limits

Carriers reserve the right to refuse transport if such items are found.

8. Communication Standards

All parties agree to maintain professional and respectful communication at all times. Misconduct, threats, or failure to cooperate may result in removal from GAATCO’s service platform or carrier list.

9. Governing Law

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Colorado without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
